Regulatory Review

Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity

BC Hydro will require approval for the Columbia Valley Transmission Project from the British Columbia Utilities Commission (BCUC) which is responsible for the regulation of BC’s electricity utilities.  We submitted an Application to the BCUC on January 22, 2010 for a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity (CPCN) for the project.

The application and supporting documents are available for viewing.

For information about the application review process, including the schedule, please visit www.bcuc.com.

BCUC ensures that:

  • rates charged for energy are fair, just and reasonable; and,
  • energy utility operators provide safe, adequate and secure service to their customers

Right-of-Way over Crown Land

BC Hydro will require Crown Land License of Occupation from the Integrated Land Management Bureau (ILMB) for the transmission line right-of-way over the Crown lands in the Project area. ILMB is a Provincial Crown Agency mandated to provide British Columbians with access to integrated Crown land and resource authorizations, planning dispositions and resource information services.

BC Hydro will submit an application to ILMB in winter 2010.
