To ensure the continued safe and reliable supply of electricity for central Vancouver’s growing neighbourhoods, the local electrical transmission network needs to be expanded.
The extensive residential, commercial and institutional growth in central Vancouver requires new electrical infrastructure to keep pace with demand in the years to come. At the same time, the major underground transmission cable that currently links Vancouver’s north and south sides, as well as other existing infrastructure, is aging and needs to be replaced.
Having examined a number of possible solutions to these challenges, it was decided to build a new electrical substation and connect it to two existing substations with new underground 230 kilovolt (kV) transmission circuits.
